The mission of Swarthmore College for this project was two-

fold: construct a building to house students into the next

century and do it in a way that was sensitive to the local ecology as well as the global environment. As Construction Manager, W.S. Cumby not only shared in the vision but provided the green building experience necessary to

lead the process.

The end result is a new 32,000 SF dormitory housing 75 students in a combination of single and double rooms

including six bi-level lofts. The project incorporated many sustainable design and construction strategies including a vegetative roof, natural daylighting, low flow water saving fixtures, high efficiency glazing, recycled and low VOC

emitting materials and 92% construction waste recycling. Related Link
