Church of the Redeemer Project Awarded A 2010 Lower Merion Township Historic Preservation Award

John Milner Architects, architect for the Redeemer project, was recently awarded a 2010 Lower Merion Township Historic Preservation Award for the restoration and renovation of Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr.

Mollie Dodd Anderson Library at the George School is Awarded LEED Gold

W.S. Cumby is proud to have served the George School for the construction of the new, LEED Gold Certified, Learning Commons and Mollie Dodd Anderson Library. The 26,400 square foot facility encompasses a library, classrooms, conference rooms, and climate controlled archives space and serves as a model of the school's commitment to environmental sustainability.

Green features of the building create a significantly healthier indoor environment, lower operating costs, and reduce its overall ecological impact.

Storm water is managed by a green roof, vegetated swales and rain gardens. Waterless and low-flow plumbing fixtures reduce potable water usage over 50%. Energy consumption is 30% lower than and conventional construction due the integration building systems. Heating and cooling loads are reduced by a super-efficient envelope, traction drive elevator, day-lighting and an automated lighting control system. The space is conditioned by ground source heat pumps coupled to a 400-foot-deep well field with the capacity to absorb and release 8.4 billion BTUs annually.

Over 50% of the new building materials contain recycled content and more than 60% of materials are manufactured from regional resources, a strategy that minimizes the carbon dioxide emissions involved in transportation. Wood products are urea-formaldehyde free and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council to ensure the protection of old growth forests.

W.S. Cumby routinely recycles construction waste as part of our standard operating procedures. The CWM efforts for the George School diverted over 88% of the project’s construction debris from being sent to a landfill.
