The Caring Center
Philadelphia, Pensylvania A tight budget and a short design/build timeframe were crucial hurdles to overcome in order for The Caring Center to open its doors to the community. Through careful cost control and detailed scheduling, W.S. Cumby worked closely with the designers to reach the Center's programming goals while keeping within its financial means. This 14,000 SF, 165-child facility for infants through pre-school children includes a full-service kitchen, elevator two-story day-lit lobby and large play/meeting room with a dramatic view of the Philadelphia sky. This distinctive building envelope, adorned with images of developing tadpoles, is a playful representation of the tue purpose of the structure. The Caring Center received an AIA Award for Design Excellence from the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Institute of Architetcs. |
