Kim & Tritton Residence Halls
W.S. Cumby provided both preconstruction and construction phase services for a new 44,000 SF student residence complex built in the heart of Haverford College’s arboretum campus. The new Kim and Tritton Halls currently house 160 students in private, single rooms.
The facades are clad with handmade water-struck brick, each branded with the thumbprint of its molding craftsman. The buildings are day-lit through the use of roof monitors, central courtyards and operable wood windows. Vegetated roofs, visible from the surrounding campus buildings, are installed on both structures. The dividing landscaped berm is contained by canted architectural concrete walls with a heavily sandblasted finish.
Interior materials include FSC-certified oak wood doors, ceramic wall tiles and custom-designed felt wall coverings for interior corridors, white oak and bluestone flooring throughout the common areas, and cork floor tile within the student’s rooms.
The project was completed under budget on-time for the return of students for the fall semester.
